(a) Three duties of a Scorer in basketball are: 1. Keep a chronological record of points scored (field goals and free throws) and maintain the official scoresheet. 2. Record all personal and technical fouls charged against each player and team, notifying the referee when a player reaches 5 fouls or a team reaches the bonus foul limit. 3. Record time-outs requested by coaches, notify the officials when a time-out is requested, and operate the alternating possession arrow. (b) The Referee will call a Double Foul. A personal foul is charged to each player, no free throws are awarded, and play is restarted according to the alternating possession arrow with a throw-in from the nearest out-of-bounds spot. (c) The Referee will blow the whistle and call a Backcourt Violation (over-and-back violation). The ball becomes dead and possession is awarded to the opposing team for a throw-in from the sideline in their frontcourt.
