Explain the Five Second Rule and the Eight Second Rule.

(i) Five second rule: a player who is closely guarded and holding the ball in the court must pass, shoot or dribble within 5 seconds, otherwise it is a violation. Likewise, a player taking a throw-in must release the ball within 5 seconds. (ii) Eight second rule: the team which gains control of the ball in its own back court must take the ball into its front court within 8 seconds, otherwise it is a violation.
