What is a double foul in the game of basketball? What is the penalty for this foul?

A double foul is a situation in which two opponents commit personal fouls against each other at about the same time. Penalty: a personal foul is charged to each player. No free throws are awarded, and the game is restarted by the alternating possession rule (a jump ball in older rules).
