1. To start and end each half and the match.
2. To signal a goal.
3. To stop play for a foul or infringement.
4. To award a penalty corner or penalty stroke.
5. To restart play after a goal or after a stoppage.
6. When the ball goes out of play, to restart it.
7. To stop play for an injury.
