(a) Explain the process of change of ends in Singles as well as Doubles match.
(b) In a Doubles game, the wrong receiver returns the serve. What will be the decision of the Umpire?
(c) In a Singles game, a player hits the shuttlecock hard and it breaks while flying through the air. What will be the decision of the Umpire?
Answer
Answer
AI(a) Change of ends in Badminton (Singles and Doubles):
Players change ends:
1. At the conclusion of the first game.
2. At the conclusion of the second game (if a third, deciding game is required).
3. In the third (deciding) game, when the leading player or pair first reaches 11 points in a 21-point game.
If players forget to change ends at the 11-point mark, the change takes place as soon as the mistake is noticed, with the existing score remaining intact.
(b) The Umpire will call a 'Service Court Error' (or a fault against the receiving side). Under BWF laws, if the wrong receiver returns the serve and the rally is won by the receiver, a 'Let' is called if discovered before the next serve; if the receiving side committed the fault before the rally, a point is awarded to the server.
(c) The Umpire will call a 'Let'. If the shuttlecock disintegrates or its base separates from the feathers during a rally, the rally is voided and replayed immediately with a new shuttlecock.
