A splint is a rigid support, made of wood, metal or plastic, applied along an injured limb to keep a fractured bone or injured joint still. 1. It prevents movement, reduces pain and prevents further damage. 2. It is applied extending beyond the joints above and below the injury, with padding, and tied firmly but not so tightly as to stop blood flow. 3. It is used as first aid before the injured person is moved to hospital.
