Answer the following.
NaCN in the extraction of silver from a silver ore.
Answer
Answer
AIEquation: $\mathrm{Ag_{2}S} + 4\mathrm{NaCN} \xrightarrow{\text{air}} 2\mathrm{Na[Ag(CN)_{2}]} + \mathrm{Na_{2}S}$
NaCN is the leaching agent: it dissolves silver from the ore as the soluble complex sodium dicyanidoargentate(I), $\mathrm{Na[Ag(CN)_2]}$, which is later reduced by zinc.
