Answer the following.
Complete and balance the following equations:
(i)[1.0]
$\text{C}_6\text{H}_5\text{NH}_2 + \text{CH}_3\text{COCl} \rightarrow \underline{\hspace{2em}} + \underline{\hspace{2em}}$
(ii)[1.0]
$\text{C}_2\text{H}_5\text{NH}_2 + \text{HNO}_2 \rightarrow \underline{\hspace{2em}} + \underline{\hspace{2em}} + \underline{\hspace{2em}}$
Answer
Answer (i)
AIEquation: $\mathrm{C_{6}H_{5}NH_{2}} + \mathrm{CH_{3}COCl} \xrightarrow{\text{pyridine}} \mathrm{C_{6}H_{5}NHCOCH_{3}} + \mathrm{HCl}$
Acetanilide and hydrogen chloride are formed (acetylation).
Answer (ii)
AIEquation: $\mathrm{C_{2}H_{5}NH_{2}} + \mathrm{HNO_{2}} \xrightarrow{\mathrm{NaNO_{2}}\text{ }\text{+}\text{ }\text{HCl}} \mathrm{C_{2}H_{5}OH} + \mathrm{N_{2}} + \mathrm{H_{2}O}$
Ethanol, nitrogen and water are formed.
