Give reasons for the following.
Increase in atomic number does not change atomic radii among the transition elements.
Answer
Answer
Official answer keyWith increase in atomic number in transition series, the nuclear charge increases which tends to decrease the size but addition of electron in d-subshell increases the screening effect. Therefore, the increased nuclear charge is partly balanced and hence, the atomic radii does not change much.
