A football player suffered an injury during the game. As a result, the player's fibula bone broke and came out of the skin. The area began to bleed and became swollen.
Is a splint required in this type of fracture? Write any three steps of First Aid to be given in this case.
Answer
Answer
AIYes, a splint is required, to keep the broken limb from moving and to prevent further damage and pain.
First Aid steps (any three):
1. Control the bleeding by pressing gently around the wound with a sterile pad, without pressing on the protruding bone.
2. Cover the wound with a clean sterile dressing to prevent infection; do not push the bone back in or wash the wound.
3. Fix a splint along the injured leg (above and below the fracture) and bandage it firmly without moving the limb.
4. Treat for shock (lay the player down, keep warm) and shift to a hospital at once.
