How will you bring about the following conversion?
Chloroethane to n-butane
Answer
Answer
Official answer keyEquation: $2\mathrm{C_{2}H_{5}Cl} + 2\mathrm{Na} \xrightarrow{\text{dry}\text{ }\text{ether}\text{ }\text{(Wurtz}\text{ }\text{reaction)}} \mathrm{C_{4}H_{10}} + 2\mathrm{NaCl}$
Chloroethane on heating with sodium in dry ether gives n-butane (Wurtz reaction).
