Give reasons for the following.
Give reasons for the following: salts are paramagnetic, while salts are diamagnetic.
Give reasons for the following:
$\text{Cu}^{2+}$ salts are paramagnetic, while $\text{Cu}^+$ salts are diamagnetic.
Answer
Answer
AIBecause $\mathrm{Cu^{2+}}$ has the configuration $3d^9$ with one unpaired electron, it is paramagnetic, whereas $\mathrm{Cu^+}$ has $3d^{10}$ with no unpaired electrons, so it is diamagnetic.
