Give a reason for each of the following.

Ethoxy ethane does not react with sodium, but ethanol does.
(b)[1.0]
Methoxy ethane with conc. $\text{HI}$ at $373\text{ K}$ gives $\text{C}_2\text{H}_5\text{OH}$ and $\text{CH}_3\text{I}$ but not $\text{CH}_3\text{OH}$ and $\text{C}_2\text{H}_5\text{I}$.
